Lift Chair

A lift chair allows a disabled person or someone with limited mobility to get up from a chair. Lift chairs use an electrical powered mechanism to push the entire chair up from its base. This allows the person to get up easier from the chair. Lift chairs can also recline into various positions.

There are several different types of lift chairs. The differences in features focus mainly on recline ability:

2 Position Lift Chair: A 2-position lift chair is the simplest and has two positions to choose from: standard and recline. The “recline” position is leaned back slightly so that the person can watch TV and read a book.

3 Position Lift Chair: A 3 position lift chair has three positions to choose from: standard, recline and full recline. The additional “full recline” position allows the person to sleep and use the chair as a bed.

Infinite Position Lift Chair: An infinite lift chair has infinite number of positions from standard all the way to full recline into a bed position.

An alternative to a lift chair is a seat assist or a lift cushion which can be placed on a regular chair. However, these are not as comfortable as a lift chairs and do not have the recline features.

As a smarter consumer, we recommend that you first determine the need of the lift chair. If you need to sleep in the chair then get at least a 3 position lift chair. If you will only use it to sit, read and watch TV, then a 2 position lift chair is enough. Lift chairs range from $500 and up depending on the features you want. Many higher end chairs features heating and massage as well.
