Memory Foam Mattress | Tempur Pedic Mattress

A memory foam mattress, sometimes called Tempur Pedic mattress based on the name of the American pillow and mattress company, is a mattress that is made out of a visco-elastic foam that contours to the body. It is important to note that not all memory foam is alike and Tempur-Pedic uses a foam called Tempur which is more dense than the standard memory foam.

The proposed benefits of a memory foam mattress or Tempur Pedic mattress is that by contouring to the body, it removes pressure points and offers better circulation for the body while still offering the same level of support as a firm mattress. The overall benefit of a memory foam mattress is that by offering a more comfortable sleeping position, you can get a better night sleep without tossing and turning.

Another alternative to buying a memory foam mattress or Tempur Pedic mattress is to buy a memory foam topper and put it on your existing mattress. The advantage of this solution is that the memory foam topper is probably less expensive than an entire mattress and you can still reuse your old mattress. The drawback is that your old mattress may need to be replaced anyway and the mattress topper will not really add the support that a good memory foam mattress can offer you.

When buying a memory foam mattress make sure that you look at the density of the memory foam. Typically, a memory foam that is 2 pounds / square feet (lbs / sq ft) or less is considered low density and a memory foam that is 5 lbs / sq ft or more is considered high density. A reasonable tradeoff point for a good memory foam at a reasonable price is probably around a density of 4 lbs / sq ft. The Tempur Pedic claims that the Tempur material is at 5.3 lbs / sq ft of density. Although you should use the Internet to do your research first, make sure that you visit a few respectable furniture and bedding stores and ask some experts before you purchase.
