Pool Heater

Pool Heater

A pool heater is used to heat a swimming pool. Unless you live in the warmest of climates, most pools need pool heaters to keep the temperature ideal for swimming. Pool heaters are also needed to extend the use of your pool throughout the year, including the winter months if desired.

There are several popular types of pool heaters including solar, electric heat pump and gas.
  • Solar Pool Heater - A solar pool heater works by pumping the cool water from your swimming pool through a series of tubes that are heated by solar panels. The warm water is then pumped back into the pool.

  • Gas Pool Heater - A gas pool heater uses propane or natural gas as a heat source. The principle is the same with other heaters in that water from the pool is circulated and heated before sending back into the pool.

  • Electric Heat Pump Pool Heater - An electric heat pump pool heater works by circulating the water from the pool with heated air that the compressor produces, thereby warming the pool. Electric heat pump pool heaters cost more than gas pool heaters initially but they are more efficient and saves energy costs over the long term.
Buying a Pool Heater
All pool heaters typically have filters as well so that when the water is circulated, the debris is cleaned out. If you have a swimming pool that you plan to use frequently, it is a good idea to invest in a good pool heater. Several questions to ask yourself before you decide which type of heater is ideal for your situation are: How large is your pool? How often do you want to use your pool? What is the year round climate for your region? These questions will help you choose what type of pool heater will work best for you.
