Sun Room | Solarium

A sun room or sometimes called patio room, sun porch, or solarium is a room that is surrounded by windows to let the sunlight in. There are many purposes that a sun room can be used for and many types as well. Most people convert their existing living room, dining room, or patio into a sun room.

The main benefit of a sun room or solarium is for the homeowner or guests to enjoy the natural light and warmth of the sun without the harmful UV rays, wind, pollen, and other undesirable natural elements for a home environment. A sun room can also function well at night allowing the light from the moon and stars to shine through. Popular room choices for sun rooms are the living room, the dining room or outside patio. People tend to entertain guests and spend leisure time in these rooms so making these rooms into sun rooms to allow the natural sunlight in is a desirable upgrade to a home.

The standard features of a sun room are usually tempered roof rafters, tempered roof glass and strengthened glass windows with night security locks. Most sun rooms are connected to the main portion of the house but some can also function as a separate unit.

When thinking about purchasing a sun room, make sure you look at the quality of the glass and roofing structures as your main concern. A high quality double pain glass for a sun room will keep a room warm but not let in UV rays or heat which can mean either a usable or unusable sun room. Because sun rooms also have ceiling windows, it is imperative that you make sure the roof windows and supporting structures are of top quality.
