A timeshare is an investment in a vacation property in which you purchase a fixed amount of time that you plan to use the property, usually a week or two in a year. Usually, timeshare properties are of a higher quality than rentals or hotels and frees you from having to find accommodations for your yearly vacation.



Types of Timeshares
There are generally two types of timeshares:
  • Fixed Timeshare – A fixed timeshare allows you a fixed week or two in a year that you and your family can enjoy the property. The benefits are that you know when you have time timeshare every year. The drawbacks are that you might have other plans that year and will have to find someone else to rent your timeshare.


  • Floating Timeshare – A floating timeshare does not specify a particular week that you can use the timeshare. Every year, you have to choose the week within a specified range and is subject to availability. The timeshare management company will have their own rules on how the selection process works.
At first glance a timeshare may seem limiting since most people may not want to go to the same place year after year. However, almost all timeshare resorts are affiliated with an exchange company. Buy using the exchange company, you can exchange your timeshare with another one in all parts of the world. You can also be assured that the quality of the resort is on par with the one you own.

Buy New or Timeshare Resale?
Buying a new timeshare from a developer will cost you a lot more than buying a timeshare resale from another owner. There are some instances when you want to buy a new timeshare as they may offer additional benefits or points not available from resellers. However, the timeshare resale market is big and it makes sense for you to look into it. Because many companies are doing timeshare resale, you should thoroughly do your research to make sure you get a deal and don’t get ripped off.

Buying Timeshare
In general timeshares are for people who value their vacations and want to make it easier for them and their families to enjoy their favorite vacation spot and other spots around the world. If you are hoping to speculate by buying a timeshare, you will most likely run into obstacles unless that is your profession. You should purchase a timeshare in a resort area that you really enjoy going to. There are many timeshare resale resources online that you can research. Make sure you read the terms and conditions before signing up for a timeshare.
