Water Filter

A Water filter is used to filter out many of the harmful contaminants from the water system so that your glass of water is clean, pure and healthy to drink. There are many types of water filtration systems including charcoal, ionic, and reverse osmosis filtration.

Reverse Osmosis Water Filters
Today, reverse osmosis water filter systems have proven to be one of the most economical and efficient means of filtering water for drinking. Reverse osmosis water filter uses a membrane separation process in which the source water flows along the membrane surface under pressure. Purified water permeates the membrane and is collected, while the concentrated water, containing dissolved and undissolved material that does not flow through the membrane, is discharged to the drain.

Reverse osmosis water filter systems remove salts, microorganisms and many high molecular weight organics. The water filter system capacity depends on the water temperature, total dissolved solids in feed water, operating pressure and the overall recovery of the system. Compared with other conventional water treatment processes, the reverse osmosis water filter system has proven to be the most efficient means of removing salts, chemical contaminants and heavy metals. There are many manufacturers offering reverse osmosis water filtration systems include GE Merlin, Premier, Culligan and Everpure.

Home Water Filters
A home water filter system is typically installed under the sink or often in the refrigerator. Installing the reverse osmosis water filter system under your sink is not too difficult but you can definitely call a handyman to help you. Make sure that you connect the water supply to the cold water line as hot water can damage the reverse osmosis membrane. Refrigerator water filter systems require that your refrigerator includes a water dispenser. All you need to do is buy the filter that fits with the system and you are done. Read the directions for how often (typically every 6 months) you should replace your water filter as a dirty filter is worse than not having a filter at all.

Buying a Water Filter
When choosing a home water filter, you should first decide where you want your water filtered. You can also buy a central water filter that connects to your water supply such that all the water in your entire house is filtered. However, these systems are not the ideal for drinking water compared to specific water filters designed for drinking water since the water will still run through your pipes and may pick up contaminates there. Our suggestion is that unless you know the water is definitely not clean or pure enough for uses other than for drinking, then consider a central water filter. For most people having, a good reverse osmosis water filter installed under the sink is the most optimal solution. There are many different brands and types of water filters. Do your research and find out which works the best for your situation and your budget.
