Wheelchair Van

A wheelchair van allows a wheelchair to be rolled into the van. If you or a loved one is confined to a wheelchair, a wheelchair van is the best and sometimes only way to transport that person. Most wheelchair vans have been converted from standard vans.

A wheelchair van offers two major benefits to the transportation of the disabled person:

(1) The person does not need to get out of the wheelchair. For some people who are confined to a wheelchair, the process of getting out and back into the wheelchair can be a chore. A wheelchair van allows the disabled person to be easily pushed into the van. (2) The wheelchair van can transport the wheelchair also. If you try to transport a disabled person in a car, your car has to be able to fit the wheelchair. A wheelchair van alleviates this problem.

Many wheelchair vans have ramps that mechanically extend and retract at the push of a button. These ramps can either come out the side or the back of the van and some can automatically lift the wheelchair. These days, it is more popular to get a lowered floor wheelchair van with a manual ramp since many electric wheelchairs can power themselves up the low degree ramp. As a smarter consumer, make sure you do your research online to determine if buying a wheelchair van or converting an existing one is the right way to go.
