Window Shades

Window shades are a type of window treatment that limits the amount of light coming through a window. Window shades can be used for practical purposes such as darkening a bedroom for sleeping or a living room to watch a movie. Window shades are also often used for decorative purposes to match the design of a specific room.

Depending on your preference and the amount of money you want to spend, there are many different types of window shades available to you. Below are a few popular types of window shades:
  • Roman / Fabric Shades – Roman shades are made of beautiful premium colored fabric. You can also choose different styles for the look of the window shade such as flat or teardrop shaped.

  • Honeycomb / Cellular Shades – Cellular shades come in honeycomb shapes when you look at it on its side. These window shades offer the best type of insulation and are extremely light weight

  • Solar Shades – If you have a window with bright lighting and a beautiful view, then you may want to invest in solar shades or solar screens. Solar window shades offer semi-transparency allowing you to see outside but block the harmful UV rays of the sun.

  • Natural Shades – These window shades can be made of wood, bamboo, jute or reeds and offer a cultured, rustic feel to your room.

  • Roller Shades – Roller shades offer a simple roll up design that is economical. Most roller shades are used for room darkening purposes.
Buying Window Shades
Whatever your preference, there is a window shade right for you. Before you buy a window shade, make sure you consider both the decoration and features you need. In some cases, you way want to buy a decorative window shade but add an inner lining for those times when you want to shield out the light completely. This way, you get both the feature of a darkening shade when you need it and a beautiful colorful translucent or semi-transparent window shade. Make sure you do your research as there are many manufacturers of window shades and ask the manufacturer about what you need to do to maintain the window shades such as cleaning and dusting. The worst thing is to buy a window shade that fades or is hard to keep it looking like the condition the new window shade came in.
